Recent events in Europe have demonstrated the urgent need to adapt our cities to the more frequent, intense and devastating impact of climate change. Integrating nature-based solution (NBS) in cities can be a powerful way to address these impacts and contribute to improving the quality of life in cities. However the roll-out of NBS needs to happen faster and in a more systemic fashion. Based on the lessons learnt from specific urban NBS initiatives, this session will discuss how NBS can be integrated at scale in cities and how such systemic changes can leverage private financing.

Organised by the European Investment Bank with the participation of the European Commission, the World Resources Institute, the cities of Vienna and Athens, GINKGO Fund and ICLEI Europe, this session will focus on urban nature-based solutions (NBS) supported under the Natural Capital Financing Facility and the Cities4Forests initiative, with the aim of identifying recommendations for the next generation of urban nature-based initiatives.
